a new camera
by Kay
For my 58th birthday, Tom gave me a camera. Eric helped him figure out what to buy. The Nikon came with a 321 page user’s manual, not counting the index. I’m hopelessly lost just now. I take a class next week, but for now, I’m reading the manual, watching instructional videos, taking lots of pictures, and trying different settings.
Thank you, Tom. Let’s take pictures. The autumn light doesn’t wait long.
“Tacky yard ornament” – you make me smile! I have a good camera, too – that I don’t know how to use properly. But at least it usually takes good photos. Well, at least better than my old manual!!
Sadly, that tacky yard ornament is situation right in my front yard. I keep hoping maybe someone will steal it. No luck just yet.
Thank you for stopping by my blog, Gretchen.
Yay for new cameras. :-)
I had one last christmas with an idiot-proof setting which does everything for you, and lots of other settings to learn so that I could start using it straight away and gradually learn the different bits it does too.
Have fun ! :-D
I’m kind of bogged down right now in the user’s manual. I’m on the PSAM chapter. Whatever that means. This will be more fun once I know stuff, right?
Your photos are great. you have a good eye.
Sue, you are my new favorite person. Thank you for stopping by my blog, friend!
Loved your photos with your new camera. Autumn just cries out to be photographed! Enjoy learning all the new features of your gift.
With me behind the lens, I’m stunned to have photos nearly as good as these are. Thank you.
Love these pictures. Can’t wait to see more.
I promise not to bore everyone with just a bunch of photos. I’ll probably bore you in other ways, but at least there will be better photos included. Thanks for stopping by my blog, friend.
I have a Nikon D7000 and love it, and I also have a D5000. I know my way around Nikons, so if you need any help or tips, I’d be glad to tell you what I know! :)
And by the way, you have a very good eye.
Megan! Your comment on my blog feels like someone has just thrown me a life preserver. I’m taking a class on DSLR in Chicago next weekend. I’m trying to make my way through the user’s manual before I go to the class, so I’m not completely lost throughout the day. I suspect that mostly I need to just start taking lots of photos and making note of what works and what does not.
Thank you for your offer of help! That means so much to me.
Ugh. I have needed a new camera for a few years now, but I haven’t taken the leap. My older digital camera has a water stain on the lens and some of the settings no longer work properly. I still don’t know what to buy, Nikon or Canon, first of all, but then the features! I suppose it would help to know I could take a class. I am a good photographer (not great, but good) and I love taking photos. I notice how few I take now with my mal-functioning oldie.
I would love to hear more about your progress. Good luck. You give me hope.
The class was awesome. (Once again, I was the oldest person in the class, but that’s another post, I suppose.) Let me know what you decide to do!
We bought a camera a few years ago for a trip to Arizona. It was so much fun capturing the world in a new way. We still love looking back at those photos and all the ones we’ve collected since then.
Your pictures look fantastic! Looking forward to more.
Is your Arizona camera the one you use to post photos to your blog? You take wonderful shots!
Great pictures for somebody who has just started! And the autumn leaves look so lovely. God, I miss proper seasons.
Great pictures! Your camera looks like it’s a really good one. You have such a good eye for composition. And thanks for reading my latest blog and liking it. I really appreciate it. I hope we can get to know each other through our blogs! Good luck with everything!
I agree with you: the autumn light doesn’t wait long.
Your pictures are great, and not at all boring! You are so right to head out into the light and just point and shoot. That is all I’ve ever done, and it will take you a good way- but I bet the official learning will be amazingly helpful too. -kate
Fantastic pictures – even if you’d taken the class.
